Mabel Royds (1874–1941) studied at the Slade School of Fine Art before working in Paris with Walter Sickert and later teaching in Toronto, Canada. She joined Edinburgh College of Art in 1911 and became known for her vividly coloured woodcuts of flowers, Biblical themes, and Indian scenes, inspired by Japanese printmaking.
